Dive into the captivating world of Indian hand-block printing at our latest workshop with Seams Helsinki, a collective creating a more authentic & empathetic fashion culture that is based on local resources, collaboration, resiliency and well-being. We have joined forces with Seams Helsinki to offer a workshop at the intersection of craft, fashion & mindfulness.

We know that pursuing sustainable fashion isn't for the faint of heart. It requires grit to stand up for what is right and engage in the "trend-focused" fashion world with your unique point of view and sustainable values.

Through our workshop, let us take you to the world of Indian artisans who have practiced the craft of hand-block printing for over 500 years. Inspired by the timelessness of their craft, we invite you to increase the lifeline of your old clothes by bringing them to the workshop and reviving them with the art of block printing.

WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS

  • Why the Fashion Revolution: The Fashion Revolution is the world's largest fashion activism movement, campaigning for a fashion industry that values people and the planet over profit and growth. Learn more about how we can be part of this truly people-powered movement, working together in communities around the world to create positive and lasting change. (Possibility to register your interest to work with the Fashion Revolution chapter in Finland)
  • Meditation for Creativity: Mindfulness practices can help boost creativity and innovation by allowing for a clearer and more focused mind. We will start the workshop with some mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing, and visualization to increase clarity and focus.
  • Introduction to Block Printing: The technique of printing from wooden blocks onto paper and textiles, originated in China and spread across Asia. It may have inspired the first engraved woodcuts that led to the printing press. This technique is still widely used in India, mostly on textiles, and in the workshop, we will learn the history and skills of the practice.
  • Reviving our Wardrobe: For the final project, transform your clothing using the age-old craft of block printing. Bring your old jeans or scarf and adorn them with this 500-year-old technique, infusing new life and style into your wardrobe.
  • Sharing Space: To aid deeper integration of the lessons learned, we would invite participants to share their creative outputs and takeaways from the workshop. Our hope is the participants leave the event inspired and activated to do better and live better.
